General Rules for placing Rental Property Ads

1) Do not use coding and/or scripts in your ad.

2) No spam.

3) One link related to your property rental only (Example: you have a website with more rental details not covered in your ad). Your link must only be placed under the WEBSITE field and not placed in your property description.

4) One listing per property address only. The only exception to this rule is if you have multiple units within the same address that have different price points. If this is the case, make use of the UNIT # field so we know not to delete the ad.

5) The listing category must be relevant. For example, if you have a student room for rent, you would not place it in the Apartment category. If we start getting complaints from visitors that your ad is in a misleading category, we will either relocate it to the proper category or delete it all together.

6) You may have only one account per person and/or per email address. If you set up more than one membership under the same name or we find that two accounts are advertising the same property, the most recent account will be suspended leaving only the first one active.

7) Property photos should not exceed 40KB and must be in a jpeg format. You can post up to 6 photos per ad.

8) Photos must be of actual property that is up for rent.

9) Do not add your email address or phone number to your property description. When you place your email address in your description, your email can be obtained and sold by spammers. To protect your email, we have a contact form that can simply be filled in by potential tenants wanting to contact you.

These basic rules are a summarized guide to get you started. Please read our Terms of Service for more details.

 Frequently Asked Questions

IF YOUR QUESTION IS NOT LISTED BELOW, TRY SEARCHING THE SUPPORT FORUM.

Why can't I log into the members area?
If you have just signed up, you will need to confirm your email by clicking the link we have just sent you. If you have not received the confirmation email, perhaps your spam filter is set to high. To fix this, sign into your email account and allow all email ending in @niagararents.com.

Login Problems: Check if your username contains periods, spaces or underscores. With new security features in place, many of the usernames had to be changed. For example, if your username was "Niagara Rents" or "Niagara_Rents", it would now be "NiagaraRents". Check if your username is an email address. For example, if your username was "exam_ple@niagararents.com" (by removing the @niagararents.com and the underscore) now it would just be "example".

Password Problems: If you have already confirmed your email and still can not login, maybe your password is wrong. If you have forgotten it, you can Reset it and receive a temporary password in your email.

Why can't I log into the Support Forums?
The Support Forum runs on a completly different system then the main website does. It is required that you register for the forums in addition to your Property Listing registry. If you have forgotten your password to the forums, you can Reset it and receive a temporary password in your email.

Why was my email address removed from my ad?
When you place your email address in your property description, your email can be obtained and sold by spammers. To protect your privacy, we have a contact form that can be filled in by potential tenants wanting to contact you, so there is no need to have your email address in your description and it will be removed.

What is a Video Tour URL?
Many landlords make videos of their property and then post it on video share websites such as YouTube or Metacafe. If you place the web address of the video into this field, a video tour link will appear on your listing.

What is Unpublish Listing?
When you have rented your property and want to remove the ad, just click on Unpublish Listing and it will be removed from the website. When you are ready to rent your property again, just click on Publish Listing and it will be added back to the website. This way you won't have to rewrite your ad everytime the property comes up for rent.

What is the search result image?
The search result image is the image that you see in the search results and in the property ad. This image is not part of the photo gallery.

What is the Photo Gallery?
The photo gallery is viewable from the listing page and contains a series of photos uploaded by the landlord.

What is the deal with the Top of Search Results/Home Page (Featured) upgrade?
The top of the search results is the area above all standard ads. When a potential tenant performs a search, these featured ads will show first.

I have upgraded but there has been no change. Why?
Please be patient, upgrades could take up to 12 hours before they publish to the web.

Why won't my property show up on the map?
Check the address in the Exact Address field. If you have included a unit number or anything else other than the exact street address, the property will not show on the map. If the address is correct, then the property is not recognized by Google Maps. Usually new streets have this problem. You can remove this feature by unchecking the box labeled Show Property on Map.

Do you have a phone number I can call?
To keep our website free, we do not have a customer service line at this time. If you have any questions or concerns, we are more than happy to answer your email in a timely manner.

Why was my listing removed?
If you ignore the General Rules (above) your listing is in jeopardy of being removed from the website.

Why won't my photos upload?
There are several reasons a photo may not upload.
1. The photo filename contains symbols other than letters, numbers and underscores
2. The photo is not a .jpg file
3. The file size exceeds 40KB or the width is larger than 400 pixels
4. You have reached your maximum number of photos available for upload.
